During this time, the British and the French were fighting in a war on land that is now part of the United States. This war is called the French and Indian War. The British wanted to control more land, and the French wanted to keep their land. Many Native Americans chose to help either the British or the French during this war. In 1759, British soldiers went to a city called Québec in Canada and won a big battle there. They took over another city called Montréal the next year. After that, there weren't many big battles left between the British and the French in North America. The fighting mostly stopped by 1763 when a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris was signed. Why did the British start taxing the colonists, and why did this make them mad? The British government made laws and taxes that affected the colonists. Many colonists felt proud to be British, but they believed they had rights that the king should protect. They didn't like the Stamp Act, which was a new tax. In Virginia, some leaders, called the House of Burgesses, said that the British Parliament shouldn’t be taxing them. In 1765, the prime minister of Britain was George Grenville. He created the Stamp Act because he needed money to pay for British soldiers in North America. He thought the colonists should help pay for these soldiers who were protecting them. At first, the British leaders were surprised by how upset the colonists were. Grenville did not listen to their complaints and was eventually replaced in 1766. A leader named George Washington fought in the French and Indian War along with the British. He helped lead soldiers against the French. He became a well-known leader and was even elected to help make laws in Virginia.

On July 4, 1776, it was adopted unanimously by the 56 delegates to the Second Continental Congress, who convened at the Pennsylvania State House, later renamed Independence Hall, in the colonial era capital of Philadelphia. The Committee of Five, including John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman, were the ones who had the most influential input into authoring the document. Thomas Jefferson actually wrote the original document the Second Continental Congress then did the editing. The signers of the Declaration of Independence are the nation's Founding Fathers. 3. John Jr explained how the Declaration explains to the world why the Thirteen Colonies regarded themselves as independent states no longer subject to British colonial rule. The Declaration justified the independence of the United States by listing 27 colonial grievances against King George III and by asserting certain natural and legal rights, including a right of revolution. 5. John Jr told Yuēhàn that The Declaration of Independence has proven an impactful statement on human rights, particularly its second sentence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." 6. Later that day, John Jr and Yuēhàn began their Independence Day celebrations with a family picnic. They night ended with a spectacular fireworks display.

Kala sometimes has to wear shoes is the ground is to cold or to hot. The same for wearing a jacket if the weather is rainy or frigid. Chicken knew that Gigi loved palm leaf soup more than anything else in the world. So, Chicken made a big pot of the delicious soup and hid it high up in the tallest tree. When Gigi caught the scent of the soup, her mouth watered, and she couldn't resist. She looked up at the tree and saw the pot of soup perched on a high branch. Determined to taste it, Gigi began to stretch her neck. She stretched and stretched, but the soup was still out of reach. Gigi didn't give up. She kept stretching her neck higher and higher until, finally, she managed to get her head into the tree. But as she tried to take a sip, her head got stuck between the branches! Poor Gigi was trapped. For 100 years, Gigi remained stuck in the tree. The other animals tried to help, but it took a long time to figure out how to free her. Eventually, they worked together and managed to rescue Gigi. When she was finally free, Gigi's neck had become incredibly long from all that stretching. From that day on, all giraffes had long necks, just like Gigi. They could reach the highest leaves and enjoy the tastiest treats, all thanks to Gigi's love for palm leaf soup and her determination to reach it. And that's how the giraffe got its long neck.
