At school, her teacher, Pani Novak, taught in German. Luzia tried teaching Upper Sorbian to her classmates but found it challenging. After school, she played in the luga (meadow), singing Sorbian songs. At home, she helped her babka make knedliki (dumplings) and listened to her děda's tales.
